Stafford and the forgotten problem by Gareth ThomasMy four Staffords are like many other peoples they are so loving and soft that its hard to imagine that they could possibly hurt anyone yet let them within ten foot of another dog and bang they lose all their softness. This is of course what the breed was designed to do and is what gives these dogs their irresistible personality. If Staffords are controlled then there is not a problem, problems arise when Staffords are not restrained. No dog should be allowed to wonder the streets but letting a staff do so is like holding a time bomb, A Stafford possesses the capability to do serious damage should it wish, these dogs should not be left off the lead where other dogs are presence. It is a down side of owning a Stafford that you cant walk along with it off the lead and let it play with other dogs, but I assure the pleasure a well looked after Staff will give is worth it. At a recent show it was disturbing to see so many people enter with their Stafford on a long lead and letting amble towards other staffs. Please it isnt that difficult to keep your dogs close to you and away from other dogs, if you dont it may all end in tears. I have first hand experience of what is left when two Staffs take it into their head to declare war and believe me it isnt pretty.
